Tis the season of pumpkin ales, mulled wine and warming whiskeys by the fire. Ahh, don't we all love these crisp Autumn and Winter months.

For any of you that know me, you know that there is nothing I like more than socialising over a nice cold drink. I actually sat down today and calculated that, on average, I consume about 8 alcoholic drinks a week, which is 32 a month, which is a massive 384 every year. That is more than one beer for every day of the entire year. Therefore, the challenge I am about to set myself is a massive one, as it would be for anyone that enjoys their beer (and wine...vodka... cider...) as much as I do.

The challenge I am setting is as follows: I will not drink a single alcoholic beverage for the whole of the month of November. That means: no acommpanying drink when having a meal out; no beers with friends; no cheeky glasses of wine after a long day at work. This means being 'that girl' at the club who is sitting sadly in a corner staring into my ice water, or a diet coke if I'm feeling really adventreous.

Sure, for those of you that don't drink, you must be rolling your eyes right now. Challenge? What challenge? But, ever since I was about 15, I have become accustomed to having a nice alcoholic beverage or 3 with an evening meal at home with the family. I have always enjoyed meeting my friends at the pub every weekend and bonding over a few beers, or sitting at home with my boyfriend and splitting a bottle of wine while watching a film. It's fun, it's refreshing, and I've always done it. You could almost say it's part of my culture as a 20-something British born girl, which is why it's going to be such a challenge. But, I really want to do it. Here's why.

I want to raise awareness, and funds, for two very important Cancer research charities, one based in the UK and one based in Canada, as I see both of these places as my home.

Cancer is a monumentally terrible disease. I think 95% of the people I know, both in the UK and here in Canada, have been somewhat affected by cancer, either directly or in somebody that they know. I have a very close friend that is fighting the battle against Cancer right as we speak, and he is younger than me. The fact that this disease should take anybody's life is beyond heartbreaking, but the fact that it can ravage the body of somebody so young with so much ahead of them really is disgraceful. My friend with cancer was training to be a doctor, and is currently taking time out from that in order to recover. I want to see him get better, get back on track and live that dream.

I would like to ask you guys a massive favour; to keep me on track throughout the month of November, and to donate to support my No Drinks November challenge. Any money raised will be split down the middle between Cancer Research UK (http://www.cancerresearchuk.org/) and the Canadian Cancer Society (BC Region) (https://www.cancer.ca/en/?region=bc). Both charities do such amazing things to fund research into finding a cure for this awful, awful disease. My aim is to raise $500 in total, but honestly, I don't care what you donate. I don't care if it's a tiny, tiny amount, because it all helps. As little as $1 (50p) from everybody that sees this page will help massively.

If you can help, even if it is just a tiny, tiny amount, I would really, really appreciate it. Let's try and hit that target and take one step closer to beating this demon of a disease once and for all.
