Jennifer Burris hasn't added a story.
Robert Dale Burris is a 29 year old man from Colorado. He was on a short trip to Las Vegas with his wife and his friends when he became seriously ill and was taken to the hospital on September 6, 2014. Robert, his wife, and his parents who flew from Georgia to be with him at this crucial time (per the doctor's advice), have been stranded in Las Vegas for the last month, but his insurance is fighting them on paying for the transportation neccessary to bring him home. If his family can pay the retainer for the air ambulance, the insurance company does not have to approve the transport, and they are asking for your help to raise the funds to pay the retainer and bring Robert home.
Robert's condition deteriorated rapidly after his admission and he had to be sedated and then first intubated, and next placed on an ECMO machine as his lungs failed. He is slowly improving, and has been taken off the ECMO, but he remained sedated until last weekend, when he was given a tracheal tube. He has several large bedsores, his kidneys are struggling, and the prolonged sedation has made him very weak, in addition to his continuing reliance on the ventilator and his slow return to consciousness. Due to these factors, he will have to remain hospitalized for several weeks if not months yet. This length of time is not financially feasable for his family to remain in Las Vegas at his bedside, and they will be forced to leave him alone in a town which is a 12 hour drive from his own.
Robert has been diagnosed with pulmonary hypertension, and his doctor wants him to see a specialist versed in this condition, of which there are none in Nevada. In addition, Robert suffers from bipolar disorder and has struggles with a phobia of abandonment, two aspects of his psyche that will hinder his recovery if he is left in Las Vegas alone.
Any funds raised that are not required for the retainer, or if we exceed our goal, will be put towards paying the medical fees that Robert has incurred during this illness.
Thank you to all who help bring him home, your support is greatly appreciated!
