Heidi is our 1 1/2 year old German Shepherd who was hit by a car on Tuesday morning, July 15, 2014, less than 24 hours after we moved with her from Florida to New York. Heidi is welll loved, especially by her little boy. They have a special bond. Heidi has been well taken care of since she we rescued her from Craigslist early 2013. Her first two little boys showed signs of allergy. The family didn't want to ban her to the yard, so they re-homed her. Heidi was spayed early. Heidi is utd on all vaccines. She is on monthly heartguard and comfortis. We have kept her safe until now despite her knack for climbing  fences and squeezing through gates. She is not a roamer, but she has a strong prey drive. She won't leave a yard if her family is supervising. She usually won't leave a fenced yard if her family is inside the home. There is an underground fence here, but her collar hadn't arrived yet. My toddler let her out without us knowing and she was hit very soon after that.

The veterinary bills totaled over $5,100. We got approved for $3,400 care credit, and generous donations from incredibly caring people total $3,137 so far:) Heidi was able to come home on Saturday night, July 19th. Her pneumothorax resolved with chest tubes and her fractured face looked so much better after just three days. Surgery for that is not necessary at this time. Heidi is looking great! She's back to herself:) She's sleeping on her new extra large orthopedic bed by my bed. Her little boy sleeps in here too.
100% of the donations will be used to cover Heidi's current bill. Heidi is now covered 90% and $15,000 a year by Embrace pet insurance through USAA. Any excess donations will be paid forward to other pets in need. We now give money to every worthy cause that crosses our path, and I tell those seeking donations about how donations helped save my dog's life. There will be constant updates until this fundrazr is over. If you want updates after that, I will provide them if you email

Heidi was saved and cared for at: Orchard Park Veternary medical center, 3930 North Buffalo Rd, Orchard Park, NY. It was a wonderful experience, considering. They assessed her injuries quickly and kept me updated at least twice a day. There are many wonderful people working there, from the receptionists to the techs to the vets.

I am searching all over facebook for the girl who had the misfortune to hit Heidi. It happed on Seneca St, Elma. Without her following Heidi and calling authorities, Heidi may not have made it. When I saw her two doors down talking to a sheriff, I knew we'd found Heidi. This young, blonde girl was very upset and apologetic. She could barely speak. I hugged her to me and told her it was okay. The sheriff told me that it didn't look good, so I expected the worst. I stuck my face in my dog's neck and told her goodbye. She was gurgling terribly. I had been with Heidi for some time before the girl ever left the scene. She waved to us as she drove away. She drove a small, black suv. My aunt arrived and took charge. We drove Heidi to the vet and halfway there she sat up. From there I felt she'd be okay and she eventually would be, but it cost $2,500 just to admit her and I panicked. I just quit my job to move here and my husband's current ft job will slow down as winter hits. We needed what little we had to get our own place and survive while I looked for a job. Right now we are squeezed in with family. Somehow I found out about care credit and my good friend Faye set up this fundrazr. I have been overwhelmed at times by the outpouring of love and the generosity.

Thank you everyone;)
