My Honest Biography, and why I'm reaching out to you:
Ever since I was a kid, I have always wanted to do something important. I wanted to be like my childhood heroes I’d seen growing up; my father, for one, who was an economist at the International Monetary Fund, was my biggest idol and continues to be, to this day. His caring nature and generous spirit were things I longed to immolate, and strived to live like as I grew older. When I was eight years old, we moved to Kinshasa, Zaire. As a child, I was inspired by the idea that my father, alone, was responsible for an entire country's economy. I was so proud of him, and it was almost like the people KNEW just how influential he was. I never knew such happiness and freedom as I did in Africa. The beauty of the country, the people, and the culture stayed with me until this day, and I long to one day, go back and experience that life again. When you’re a kid, everything seems easy, the world is at your feet, and you have this mindset that when you get older you can do anything. Now that I am older, nothing is simple, the world seems out of reach, and I know life isn’t boundless but has many limits. There are times when I wish I could be a kid again, if only for a few minutes.
I have a passion for taking care of people and I currently am pursuing an education in health care and hope to continue on to a career in nursing. I am enrolled and attending classes at MedTech Institute in Silver Spring, MD and will graduate in June 2014 with three certifications; Medical Assistant, ECG Technician, and Phlebotomy Technician. Now that it counts and it matters, I regret not taking my education more seriously when I was younger. The stupid little decisions I made at that time completely altered my chances of a successful college career. I am not saying my existence was a complete waste. I did learn. I had great experiences as well as atrocious ones. I made mistakes and poor choices that I learned from, as well as good decisions that I am proud of, like my three beautiful children, whom I love dearly.
Life has its ups and downs. Through it all, I managed to make friends who I know will always be there and I am closer with my family than ever. I have regrets that I know I can’t take back or change, so I focus on the present. Right now, my focus is on getting through college, no matter how tough it may seem at times. All my life I have wanted that Cinderella happy ending, I have wanted to try on that glass slipper and have it fit perfectly. That’s what I am hoping for in college. I want a chance to help make the world a better place, the opportunity to make a difference, to make my children proud, my father proud, my best friend proud.
So I'm reaching out in the hopes that you will help me reach my goals. College is expensive. Not only that, I am already obligated to federal student loans and am worried I'll get in over my head. I'm praying for financial help and charity from caring friends who believe in me and want to see me reach my goals!
A successful person is a dreamer whom someone believed in.
