Kellogg Child and Family Program

The Center for Communication, Hearing & Deafness provides therapy and education services for children with hearing loss through our Child & Family Program. This program is a cornerstone of our organization and its goal is improving education opportunities and outcomes for deaf or hard of hearing children.

Many of our families do not have the financial means to pay for the full range of services their child needs. In 2013, it cost approximately $7, 280 for one child to enroll in our program for one year. While this is expensive, our early intervention efforts can save the community about $1,000,000 in special education costs and other accommodations over the lifetime of that child.

Our goal through this campaign is to raise enough money to cover the cost of two children for an entire year.  Watch our video or read more about what we do below! Thanks for your interest and please consider supporting a great cause that helps hundreds of kids each year.

The Center for Communication, Hearing & Deafness

Founded in 1926, CCHD has evolved from a small Milwaukee-based social club to a trusted statewide resource for individuals of all ages with all degrees of hearing loss, which now serves more than 6,000 people annually.

At the heart of CCHD’s work is the Child & Family Program, a comprehensive education and therapy effort that provides language and early-literacy services to children diagnosed with hearing loss, as well as children of Deaf parents who may be at risk for spoken language delays. Thanks to Universal Newborn Hearing Screenings, CCHD can begin working with children and their families within the first months of life, creating a strong foundation for communication and language development that will ultimately help them succeed in school and beyond. Early intervention and parent education services greatly improve outcomes for deaf or hard of hearing children, many of whom graduate from the Center’s Birth-to-Three program with age-appropriate language, communication, and social skills. Our graduates are ready to enter school on equal footing with their hearing peers.

In addition to in-home and on-site services, CCHD also offers innovative speech-language therapy for children, including ConnectHear tele-therapy. ConnectHear connects families and their deaf or hard of hearing children to CCHD’s certified Auditory-Verbal professionals via web cameras, providing critical specialized therapy to children who may not otherwise have access to services.

For adults, CCHD uses an individualized approach to find solutions that meet the unique hearing needs and communication goals of each person. Services include hearing rehabilitation therapy, sign language interpreting services, independent living skills training and assistive device consultations, sales, and rentals.

CCHD also offers, in partnership with the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, complete audiology and hearing care services to individuals in the Milwaukee area.
