This year Halloween brought horror to Liz Chacon and her family.  The city purchased her current home due to the flood hazard.  Still living there while her new home is under construction, the flood came and Liz's family lost it all, including their vehicles.  She will be able to replace her vehicles as she has insurance on them but everything else she owned is completely gone and she will have no money coming to replace any of it. Since the city had already bought the house from her and planned to tear it down as soon as her new home was ready, they did not keep any flood insurance on it and renter's insurance won't cover floods. So Liz and her family of 5 have nothing!! Here is more of Liz's story in her own words:

I have not had time to cry as a mom.   I am so busy making sure my kids, the baby, and Julia are all alright.

I came to Austin Dec 25th 1990. Danny, that is deaf, decided he wanted to attend the school for the Deaf here in Austin. So I packed up my younger son Jaime and my things and left behind a 6 bedroom rental house, 2 live-in housekeepers, and a great paying job. But family to me has always been more important - keeping my boys together. I was offered a job here at Texas School for the Deaf working weekends overnight. That only paid my rent and utilities and food. I soon lost my car - it got repossessed. But I had my kids so I figured I can face whatever came my way and I did. With the boys by my side we got back on our feet and I gave them a home that we can call our own at 5507 Springville Lane - it was small but it was ours. Then came the city with the buyout program. At this time my family had grown from 3 to 5 - my daughter-in-law Julia and my happy precious grandbaby Jacqueline. Life was great - I was having a huge house built. All was going to fall into place for us. Then the morning of 10/31/13 came and took all my belongings, including our cars. But by the love and grace of God, my foundation, my family, was still standing.

Please help make Thanksgiving and Christmas better holidays for the Chacon's than Halloween.  Anything you can do is greatly appreciated!
