Allanton Tenants and Residents Association hasn't added a story.
Allanton Tenants & Residents Association and other concerned parties have objected to Blacklaw Phase 2 extension for a further 11 turbines. The Application is at the Public Inquiry stage and the group are looking to fundraise to provide legal representation at the upcoming PI on 4th February 2014.
Please donate to our campaign through our page, thank you for
your support
Our reasons for objecting are as follows:
- Cumulative Noises Impact.
- Proximity of turbines and adverse visual impact on selected properties and the wider community.
- Erosion of amenity and recreational space and impact on small businesses in the area
North Lanarkshire Council have also objected and will be presenting their case at the PI. Our local Councillors, MP and MSP from all parties as well as local Community Councils from Newmains, Shotts, and Harthill & Eastfield have objected to this extension.
OUR STORY SO FAR:
Allanton is a small ex mining and farming community. Our nearest neighbours are Shotts & Newmains. Our landscape has undergone the ravages of deep vein mining and open casting. We have huge areas of moorland and farmland which we prize dearly. There is a rich Covenanting history associated with the area; Conventicles were still being held on the Moor at the Darmead Memorial stone until the current operational turbine site was built; the feeling of solemnity and tranquillity has been lost ..... forever. Nowadays a vigil is held at the old ruined Dura Kirk, instead.
Currently Scottish Power Renewables operate a 54 turbines development on our doorstep, a further 23 have been consented which brings the total to 77. We here in this corner of the County feel we have therefore fulfilled our contribution to Green Energy and reject accusations of being NIMBY’S (NOT IN MY BACK YARD). We are opposing this latest proposal for a further 11; they will bring these closer to individual properties and the village of Allanton. Commercial forestry is and has been felled to accommodate these turbines; normally this is carried out in a scheduled and rotational way to allow recovery of the eco system. However, this will be done in one massive operation and will leave no shelter belt for wildlife, loss of existing amenity tracks for walkers, cyclist, horse riders and will further impact the visual amenity of those living closest to the proposed development and will be the dominating view for surrounding villages.
Add to this a further 6 developments proposed not including a number of single turbine developments and you can see that we here in this area will soon be surrounded by turbines. If all of these were to be consented our open spaces across the villages of Allanton, Shotts, Hartwood, Harthill, Eastfield, Morningside will be transformed into an Industrial landscape of towering steel turbines.
