Meet Spartacus, my American Staffordshire (Pit Bull) Terrier Mix. Sparty is a fun loving dog that loves people and agility. Spartacus is need of help. Please read his story below.

Spartacus is my American Staffordshire (Pit Bull) Terrier Mix that went lame in August 2013 when during an agility class he came off the teeter obstacle incorrectly.  He landed with his back legs stretched out behind him and blew out his CCL ligament in his right knee. The CCL in dogs is equivalent to a human's ACL.

Three different Veterinarians diagnosed him with 2 CCL injuries (one to each of back legs). To be able to walk normally again, be pain free, and hopefully continue on with his agility career, he requires a surgery known as a TPLO procedure. The cost of surgery is approximately $2,200 per leg depending on if there are complications or not.   Through other donations and fundraising events we have been able to raise $915 bring the total amount we still need down to $1,285 for just the back right knee.

The surgery for Sparty is necessary because he is in a great deal of pain which is currently being controlled with medication and restricted activity. There are days that he has great difficulty walking and this affects his quality of life. The prognosis for dogs that have the TPLO surgery is very good. They are able to lead active, happy and healthy lives.  It is our hope that after surgery he can return to agility, a sport that he really loves!
