Jo-Anne Nickles hasn't added a story.
He has since been back at Methodist Children's for excessive vomiting which lasted for 2 weeks in June. It turns out he has developed severe acid reflux. The vomiting did not help his condition and was not able to hold down his much needed medication most of the time.
On July the 10th 2012, Liam was admitted to his local community hospital, as is breathing progressively became extremely difficult, and would barely eat. He slept most of the time if he wasn't crying. They placed a nasal gastro tube (feeding tube) and since it seemed to be working, he was discharged the following day. Unfortunately, three days later on the morning of the 13th 2012, Liam stopped breathing suddenly after crying for about half an hour. Paramedics were called and he was taken to the local ER, and then evacuated by air AGAIN, back to Methodist Children's hospital where he was put on a breathing machine for 9 days in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) where he spent a further 2 weeks and another 2 weeks of care in the pediatric ward. During this stay, it was discovered that Liam has Hypothyroidism, a life long condition where he will need medication for the rest of his life. Thanks to his brilliant cardiologist who considered all his symptoms and decided to re-test him (he was tested at birth but the results were negative), otherwise who knows how long this would've gone on before it would get worse (the effects are irreversible). This explains a lot of his symptoms, one being that he slept a lot.
Liam is now on Sildenafil (aka Viagra), a common drug for heart patients to open up blood vessels to improve flow, Ibuprofen to reduce swelling around the heart, Lasix to help get rid of the fluid around his heart through urination, Prevacid to relieve his acid reflux, and Synthroid for his Hypothyroidism. He is also on 1 litre flow of oxygen 24/7.
This tough little guy has been a champ through everything, and I hope you use this page to keep updated on Liam and the family.
This page is for anyone who would like to contribute to Liam's mounting medical bills. Mom and Dad have had a lot of unexpected medical bills (i.e. 2 hospital air transport trips to San Antonio costing $18,000 EACH ($36,000), & an ambulance ride to San Antonio costing $2,763).
If you would like to contribute, no amount is too small. Thank you in advance for your help, and blessings to all!!
