Gia Gilchrist survived a rare and complicated complication during the Birth of her son Mateo
Gia is still recovering and has suffered a brain injury after waking up from a coma.
In April of 2010, a team of neonatal nurses resuscitated my newborn son, Mateo, while physicians worked on resuscitating me. I suffered a rare, often-fatal syndrome known as amniotic fluid embolism (AFE) during labor. AFE is thought to be result of an anaphylactic like response to the fluid that surrounded and nourished my son. I suffered a seizure, cardiac arrest, and massive hemorrhaging requiring many units of blood, countless blood clots and eventual coma. We survived. Years later Gia is still dealing with the alot of medical issues and needs your help to pay for unpaid bills and be able to move on from this horrific experience. All donations are appreciated even a small one will help us reach the goal and help put the family in a better financial situation.
Please share with your friends and family .
AFE is so rare most physicians only know if it from medical school. Although AFE is the 2nd leading cause of maternal mortality in the United States, very little is known about it. Thus, making it impossible to predict and even more challenging to treat.
