In Affiliation with Free the Children, St. Dominic Catholic Secondary School, in Muskoka, Canada will be undertaking a 15 day pilgrimage to rural Kenya this upcoming May 2013. Here the students will offer service in the construction of village schools, teach in classrooms, learn about wildlife migration patterns, and engage in seminars about issues affecting the indigenous cultures of Africa. Both educators and students will live among the Maasai and Kipsigi people in a rural village in order to fully undertaken an exciting new educational initiative: the Kenya Leadership Program.

This program is designed to sensitize our young adults and educators to issues affecting the Developing World and to use that knowledge to make a difference in the lives of others. This project has been undertaken in partnership with Adventure Learning Experiences and Free the Children.

There are 20 senior students participating in this program. The program involves an academic component in which themes specific to the Developing World such as: health care, child labour, colonialism, native culture, education, social justice and human rights will be studied. The embrace the cultural experience.

We appreciate any personal donations and corporate assistance in the form of purchasing space in our Sponsorship Booklet. This booklet will contain the participants’ photographs, their personal introductions, letters of support from political and school board officials, and sponsor advertisements. These booklets will be distributed to all who are involved in our youth leadership and adult service programs, school board officials, families, and corporate sponsors.

We greatly appreciate your support in enabling our students’ involvement in this worthwhile experience. It is hoped that an experience such as this will offer our young adults opportunities for leadership growth, awareness of global concerns, and lay a foundation for civic involvement and contribution.

Thank You!
