Lucy Goes The Extra Mile!

Every year in June, Himalayan Life hosts its annual fundraising event, The Extra Mile. This event exists so participants can walk or cycle in solidarity with children in the Himalayas who walk for hours to their nearest school.

There is one person who has taken the initiative to go above and beyond The Extra Mile and her name is Lucy.

Lucy is 11 years old and is the daughter of Tim and Heidi Epp, members of the Himalayan Life community. Lucy is currently in the sixth grade and her favourite sports are soccer, basketball and skiing. She loves the TV show Survivor and in her free time, she enjoys rock climbing, listening to Taylor Swift and playing with her dog.

This is what Lucy had to say about choosing to go the extra mile for Himalayan Life:

"One day I'd love to go to Nepal with my mom and meet the kids that I have been hearing about for years. In the meantime, I'll walk an extra mile to show that I care. I'm planning on walking from Chilliwack to Abbotsford, approximately 35km, on June 18th. I've biked that far but never walked that far before. I'm very determined to make it. My dad told me that if I need a ride he'll pick me up, but I've assured him I won't need it. My mom is planning on walking with me (if anyone is going to give up it'll be her). Kids do hard things all over the world. I know that sometimes the children that attend the Himalayan Life school have to walk a very long way from home to get there. I hope that they hear about me walking for them so that they know I care."

Lucy will start on the Yarrow side of the Rotary Trail in Chilliwack and will complete her walk at Castle Fun Park in Abbotsford.
