PLEASE HELP US SAVE CARSON! Hit by a car and left to die in the middle of the freeway during rush hour!
On Tuesday, 9/23/14, a dear friend of the rescue was driving home on the 110 during rush hour when he noticed an injured dog wobbling through lanes of traffic. Cars continued zooming by, but our friend stopped traffic to pick up the dog and load him in the car. When we arrived at the vet, several staff members were mopping up pools of blood in the lobby and our good samaritan was also covered. The dog had a horrible puncture wound on his head that we initially suspected could be a gunshot wound.
He was in shock and, at first, they weren't sure he would make it. We told the vet we wanted to give him a chance to recover. Additionally, he was extremely skinny, terribly dehydrated, malnourished, and hypoglycemic. Fleas were visible through the holes in his coat, and he was also anemic with very pale gums. Internal damage/bleeding was suspected since there was blood in his urine. Initial x-ays showed the wound on his head was not from a bullet, and no broken bones were noticed.
Once Carson was stable, we transferred him to a 24-hour facility, where blood work showed his liver was under a lot of stress (common with this trauma). They took a closer look at his pelvis, and additional X-rays did not show a break. Internal bleeding was also ruled out.
Carson is already a beautiful example of the true spirit and resiliency in dogs; despite having been mistreated, almost KILLED, and having every right to hate humans, but only wants to be loved. In his eyes, one can see a deep pain and hesitancy to trust; his body bares even more scars that paint an ugly picture of what Carson has endured.
From the accident, Carson has several patches of severe road rash; he also has some serious pre-existing skin issues. It may be flea dermatitis and/or demodex along with malnutrition. Either way, he requires medication, special baths, a high quality diet, and will also need neuter, shots, flea meds, possibly more vet visits... Please donate to help us provide everything he needs and show him true love.

UPDATE: Thursday 9/25
Carson got the okay to come home today from the vet. He's getting lots of rest and soaking up all the love with his wonderful foster family! However, this is only the beginning of what will be a long road for him in terms of physical and emotional recovery/healing. His vet bills already total over $2500!!!! We definitely need the help of the community to give Carson the life he deserves and probably has never known.
