Hello, everyone. This is an update to Mooshi's story. The story below this paragraph is for the news up through Saturday, February 8th. Unfortunately, that morning I discovered that Mooshi's heart was just too badly damaged by the infection or complications from it to function properly, and we had to make the very difficult decision to ease her pain. She is now in a better place, but her medical and funeral fees remain. I am leaving the Campaign open the full number of days I set so that if you still wish to contribute to help us with Mooshi's outstanding medical expenses, we humbly ask for your help still.

Mooshi is our siamese snowshoe kitty who's just one big bundle of love. We adopted her 9 years ago from a family relocating to another city and could not take her with them, so we were happy to welcome her into our home. We've always known her to be a loving cat with a big heart. Unfortunately we recently discovered that the size of a cat's heart has a limit.

In the past week, Mooshi has shyed away from meals, eating less and less and rather than seeking the warmth of a lap or a heating vent, she's looked for hideaway places away from the other cats and started sleeping an inordinate amount for even a cat. Two days ago we noticed that her breathing was now labored and she was very listless and lethargic. Realizing this was not a passing thing, we rushed her to our vet first thing this morning. One x-ray told us all we needed to know: Mooshi's pericardial sac was filled with fluid, and was taking up a great deal of her chest cavity, pressing on her esophegus and her lungs. Rushing from the vet to a specialty animal hospital across town, we confirmed that she did have a large amount of fluid around her heart-too much for a simple diuretic to eliminate naturally over time. She needed to have the fluid drained immediately, and she needs to see a cardiologist for her continued good health.

Unfortunately, this couldn't happen at a worse time. If it had happened a few months later we would be able to support her surgery and recovery with little difficulty. Now, however, we're at a bit of a rough patch in our finances, and as much as we hate to ask for it, we need help.

Mooshi's surgery today (February 6th, 2014) will cost approximately $700, and her follow-up exam with a cardiologist will START at that cost. We've been able to barely cover today's surgery, but it has wiped out any and all spare funds we had. As much as we hate to ask for help, we're asking. If you can help in any way, it is most appreciated. If you can't contribute, please spread the word so we can help Mooshi get the care that she needs.

Thank you again for any help you can provide. Again, we hate asking, but we're at the end of our rope.

I know I have a lot of writers in my social media feeds. If you need an editor to help proofread your work and tighten up your grammar, I'm happy to help. This can apply for written work from blog entries to term papers to novellas. If you have a novel that needs proofread-please contact me outside of this and I'll work out another perk. We're desparate for help for our cat and will happily work out something at a reasonable rate.
