At the beginning of December, DRSF Welcomed a sweet girl with big beautiful eyes who was surrendered by her family in Miami at just over 1.5 years old.  She had been through a lot in her short life and in case losing her home was not enough, she was a nursing Mommy, and as we found out shortly thereafter she literally has a broken heart.

When she had her initial checkup, she was found to have an enlarged heart with a very severe murmur.  That didn't seem right for such a young girl, so her next stop was to see a Veterinary Cardiologist who confirmed that her heart was even worse than we thought....she was diagnosed with Patent Ductus Arteriosus (PDA) which meant that she would cross the bridge way before her time without surgery. (And especially so as her little broken heart had to work that much harder since she had just given birth).

We had to give her a chance, as healing broken hearts is what we do at DRSF, so we started looking for the best way to have her surgery done.  Where would we find a foster to help such a beautiful little girl after such a difficult surgery and where could such a delicate procedure be done?

As it so often does for our dogs who have the smallest chance, the pieces began to allign...and allign in a big way. A foster came forward who would help nurse her through her recovery after the surgery, and as luck would have it, the wonderful foster was very close to our good friends at the UF Small Animal Hospital and their Cardiology Team, complete with Board Certified Veterinary Cardiologists who were on deck to do her surgery.

The next worry...funding....we have asked for so much from our community in the last few months, and we were going to need $3,200 to cover her surgery.  Then something magical happened....Laurel, her sad eyes and broken heart had caught the eye of a very speical person who wanted to help Laurel and offered us a challenge....If we could raise $1,200 of Laurel's surgery, they would sponsor the rest!!!!!

So here is our latest request to you, our DRSF community....would you help us mend Laurel's broken heart AND have each dollar donated matched 2 for 1??  We can't think of a better deal and a more deserving girl to have her broken heart healed and have a chance at the forever family every little girl dreams of......
