THANK YOU to everyone who's helped keep the music alive at Phipps! We'll be ending the campaign at midnight tonight (February 14), so please give if you haven't already. And bring your valentine to the store!

On Friday evenings for the last six years, Rita Scott and James (Dawg) Wood have welcomed old time and bluegrass pickers and fans to thier Phipps General Store near the banks of the New River and in the shadow of Whitetop Mountain. The rich cultural and musical traditions of northwest North Carolina and southwest Virginia thrive here as folks of all ages from near and far gather to share stories and songs handed down through generations.

It's easy to take Phipps Store for granted. It's always ready, warm and waiting for all of us. But the 100-year old building is in need of repair, and there are very real costs associated with keeping the doors open, the lights on and the heater going.

For years, Rita and Dawg have happily shouldered the costs, but even with the help of occasional small donations, the leaky roof and annual liability insurance are a challenge for them to handle alone. Our hope is that together we can start by raising $2000 to replace the roof and pay for this year's liability insurance.

Let's keep the music playing at Phipps by protecting what has become for many of us a part of who we are.
