Renay Cummings hasn't added a story.
On May 7, 2012 we were told that 23 yr old Trey’s cancer
(Epithelioide Sarcoma) was back for the FIFTH time and that it had
metastasized to his lungs. We have decided after a couple unsuccessful
rounds of chemo here in the DFW area, to seek treatment at MD Anderson
Cancer Center in Houston as it is the only cancer center in the world
that has a sarcoma team. This is very costly to us as we have to drive
4 ½ hours to Houston and pay for gas, parking, lodging, food and all
other expenses that come with traveling back and forth. Not to mention
the never ending medical expenses and the cost of everyday living. He
has been unable to work since this nightmare started for the 5th time
on April 29, 2013 when Trey went in for his routine CT scans and labs
and in the CT scans the DR's seen suspicious spots in his lungs and a
biopsy on May 2, 2012 confirm our worst fears, that it was back. He
immediately was hospitalized and chemotherapy was started. During all
this his sweet wife was injured at work and has not been able to work
due to a workmans comp injury and has just had to undergo surgery. So
they have both been out of work and things have been incredibly
difficult to say the least.
Trey was first diagnosed with cancer
in 2006 when he was 16. In 2007 his cancer recurred and he had surgery
and radiation. His cancer returned again in the spring of 2012 for the
4th time and up until that point he had 3 surgeries and radiation,
this time they did one more very invasive surgery and chemo. This 5th
time, he is going through intense chemotherapy and with switching to
MD Anderson for all further treatments we are very hopeful that this
time he will kick cancers butt for good! He and his wife Ashley have
been married since 2011 and have spent a good amount of their young
marriage battling this cancer. They have endured so much remain each
others strength through all the hurdles. Everyone who meets this
incredible young man, known to his close friends and family by the
nickname of “Superman,” instantly falls in love with him. He is a
mentor and an inspiration to everyone he meets. To know him is to love
him.
Thank you for taking the time to read Trey’s story and we
thank you from the bottom of our hearts for the love, prayers,
thoughts, positive energy, and compassion you all so us.
Blessings from all of us!
