Hello all! My name is Alisha Nelson and I am a finalist in the Miss Long Island pageant in need of your help for a great cause. It would mean a lot to me if you all can take a moment and read this in hopes that you will be inspired. I promise to keep it short and sweet! :-)

A brief background of my story is that I was never truly confident in myself..not just appearance wise but also academically and emotionally, so I found myself trying to fulfill others to make myself happy. You may be asking yourself "why is that such a bad thing"? Well, it's harmful in my case because I wasn't able to connect with my inner self to find out who I am, what my capabilities are, and what truly makes ME happy. I then randomly entered the Miss NY USA pageant in January and it was a life changing experience. Through the grace of God and the pageant, I was able to feel confident in myself. It was the beginning to learning exactly what "I" wanted because for once, I was confident in my own skin..so much to the point that I will be taking the MCAT next year! From years of beating myself into thinking that I wasn't capable of becoming a physician, it brings me to tears being able to say that I actually believe in myself and I know that there is no other place I belong!

I say all of this because I need your help. As previously stated, I am a finalist in the Miss Long Island pageant (the date is August 11,2013) and I would love to not only be able to cover all the costly charges for this journey, but I would love to donate 20% of my donations to the SEAK Foundation. The SEAK Foundation is a nonprofit organization that builds confidence in women by promoting fitness which then empowers them to feel confident in their own skin. By helping me through this pageant journey, it allows me to use the crown as a microphone. And if I get the microphone, you not only helped me, you helped me make a difference in someone else's life.
