Happy enjoys belly .
Happy is Jessica's 12 month old king charles cavalier puppy. She is also an entertainer, a friend to all other dogs and humans (and even some cats), a fantastic cuddler, an epic snorer, a cheese connoisseur, and a tennis ball enthusiast.

Happy enjoys belly scratches, watching childrens' television programs and documentaries, making out with the cat, giving you high-fives, sleeping in the car, helping the sales assistant at the cash register at the pet shop, sitting, dropping, then sitting, then dropping, then sitting up straighter, then dropping, then sitting again to get treats, and being little spoon. She does not ask for much - just love and affection, and a plastic water bottle to play with every now and then.

Unfortunately, Happy and Jess received some bad news recently. After suffering from immense pain since she was just 6 months old, it has come to light that Happy has petalla luxation in both of her back legs. This means that when Happy walks, her kneecaps become dislocated. In some dogs with petalla luxation, their kneecaps can become dislocated laterally (outwards) or medially (inwards). In Happy's case, her kneecaps dislocate in both directions as they are very unstable.

Happy needs two operations, each costing $2,500. The sooner she is able to have these operations to correct her patella luxation, the better chance she has at leading a long and healthy life.

Happy's kneecaps are so unstable that the only way to assist her is with surgery. If she does not have surgery, she will suffer from arthritis and lameness in both her back legs from an early age and her quality of life will be severely diminished. She will not be able to go for walks in the park, play with her friends, wrestle with the cat, or jump up on the bed for cuddles.

Above all else, Happy is happy. She is happy both by name and by nature. She is such a happy puppy that her happiness has rubbed off on Jess, and all those who she encounters. She has pulled me through one of the toughest times of Jess' life and Jess do not know what she'd do without her, nor where she would be today.
