MILAS THANK YOU HAS BEEN SET UP BY MY WIFE AND I TO RAISE MONEY FOR WOLVERHAMPTON NEWCROSS NEONATAL INTENSIVE CARE UNIT IN MEMORY OF OUR DAUGHTER. ALL MONEY RAISED WILL HELP FUND VITAL EQUIPMENT TO HELP GIVE SICK BABIES A FIGHTING CHANCE AT LIFE!
AFTER BEING BORN BY EMERGENCY C-SECTION AT 36 WEEKS, IT BECAME VERY CLEAR THAT MILA WAS EXTREMELY POORLY. WHILST MY WIFE WAS STILL SEDATED FROM THE SECTION I WAS SAT DOWN BY A PAEDIATRICIAN WHO EXPLAINED THAT MILA HAD SUFFERED A LACK OF OXYGEN WHILST IN THE WOMB AND WOULD BE TAKEN STRAIGHT IN TO THE NEO-NATAL UNIT AT WALSALL MANOR HOSIPTAL, WHERE SHE WOULD BE PLACED ON A VENTILATOR UNTIL HER BREATHING IMPROVED. A FEW HOURS WENT BY BEFORE WE WERE ALLOWED TO SEE MILA. WHEN WE FINALLY GOT TO GO IN TO THE UNIT AGAIN WE WERE SAT DOWN AND TOLD THE SITUATION WAS ALOT WORSE THAN THEY HAD FIRST THOUGHT AND MILA NEEDED TO BE TRANSFERRED TO WOLVERHAMPTON NEW CROSS NICU FOR SPECIALIST CARE.

AT NEW CROSS MILA WAS PLACED INTO A COLD COT IN ORDER TO TRY AND COOL HER CORE TEMPERATURE TO TRY AND LIMIT THE DAMAGE ALREADY CAUSED TO HER BRAIN. THROUGH OUT THE DAY WE GOT REGULAR UPDATES FROM THE DOCTORS AND NURSES TAKING CARE OF HER. THINGS SLOWLY STARTED TO LOOK AS THOUGH THEY WERE IMPROVING, THE MEDICATION WAS REDUCED, MILA WAS STARTING TO TAKE A FEW BREATHS FOR HERSELF SO THE VENTILATOR WAS TURNED DOWN SLIGHTLY AND THE DOCTORS WERE PLEASED WITH HER PROGRESS.

OUR WORLD CAME CRASHING DOWN AROUND US THAT EVENING AS WE WERE TOLD MILA HAD TOOK A TURN FOR THE WORSE AND THERE WAS NOTHING MORE COULD BE DONE TO HELP HER. A SHORT TIME AFTER THE VENTILATOR WAS REMOVED MILA PASSED AWAY IN OUR ARMS AT 35 HOURS OLD.

WE WILL NEVER BE ABLE TO THANK THE UNIT STAFF ENOUGH FOR THE CARE AND DEDICATION THEY SHOWED TO OUR DAUGHTER. IF IT WASN'T FOR THEM WE WOULD NOT HAVE EVEN GOT THE SPEND THE VERY SHORT TIME WE DID WITH MILA. WE WOULD LOVE TO KNOW THAT WE COULD HELP GIVE OTHER FAMILIES THAT SPECIAL TIME WITH THEIR BABIES, WHETHER BY HELPING TO PAY TOWARDS VITAL EQUIPMENT OR EVEN TO HELP PAY FOR THE NAPPIES, COTTON WOOL, SOAP ETC WHICH THE HOSPITAL PROVIDE IN CIRCUMSTANCES LIKE OURS WHERE EVERYTHING HAPPENED SO FAST WE DIDN'T HAVE ANYTHING WITH US.
