This is a documentary that shows how crucial arts education in schools & communities is to the prosperity of the US. Intellectual property is our greatest asset & we are rapidly loosing that lead in the world as we cut funding to the arts continuously. More ...
I am producing a documentary on the Village Center for the Arts in New Milford, CT. This is an extremely vital organization that services the community in so many ways to people of so many walks of life. Adults as well as children and even individuals with developmental disabilities participate in art classes every day. So anyone can walk into the center and ask to learn to paint or draw or sculpt or learn pottery. Then someone will pull supplies, sit you in front of a potter's wheel and teach you to throw a pot. It's co-founder, Sharon Kaufman, has been a dedicated artist and teacher starting this organization as well as "Escape to the Arts" in the projects of Danbury CT. She has helped dozens of children escape the projects to go on to college, and become successful people in our communities at large. What she has created both in structure and atmosphere needs to be documented both for it's model and for it's inspiration. I have made the commitment to do this and have already started filming. In total I will be filming over a period of 9 months and editing for another 2. You contributions right now will help me to get access to better sound equipment, an additional camera, and updated editing equipment, and purchase the hours and hours of tape needed. I will be doing screenings once the project is finished (as well as submitting it to film festivals). All of you will be welcomed to that screening! Any gift will be greatly appreciated. And I am very excited to share this experience with all of you. I will be posting regular updates here and look forward to hearing from any of you. Thank you in advance for your support on this project about a wonderful place that needs to be put on the map!!
