Hello everyone!

We have some very passionate and innovative fifth graders who are wanting to explore 3D printing here at Jacob Wismer. Fifty of our fifth graders signed a petition of interest as they are fascinated by the technology. We wanted to interest others using examples of 3D printed materials that we printed at home and the kids loved it! 

We are requesting help to buy these printers because they are educational and engaging. Designing for 3D printers can help us grow and learn engineering and architectural skills. This can also help fourth and fifth graders let their creativity loose when designing their own prints. 3D printing and designing is an emerging technology with a lot of potential and we believe that Jacob Wismer students will benefit from the opportunity to learn to use it. 

We need three printers because there are going to be many students in our classes wanting to print and we have limited time during class to get printing done. Each design takes time to print. If we have remote printing capability, we may even be able to print on the weekends, increasing our capacity by 200%! 

We will start by using TinkerCAD tutorials that students can use to learn 3D design and printing. We can start by designing custom LEGO pieces, electrical outlet covers, small storage boxes, paint palettes or small toys. We will also spread our excitement by showcasing our projects and generating excitement within the school community. 

We hope to generate the initial funds through this project and will be asking the PTO to add us to their budget for the purchasing of future supplies. We are confident that this partnership will help inspire and motivate us in our future career choices!
