Luciano Perez hasn't added a story.
The Short Story:
We were hit by a landscaping vehicle that ran a red light and as
of now still have no idea if the offending party will pay for our
totalled vehicle. At the end of the month and with other bills to pay
& a week's lost paycheck from moving, we're currently without the
funds to rent a vehicle or rideshare to work.
The Long Story:
I'm Luciano Perez, and my partner Tess was the driver of the vehicle you see totalled in our story. We're young artists who just moved into our new apartment, about a half hour away from the jobs we transferred here to the state of GA with-- a task that took a week out of the pay we'd normally receive.
Living together with our roommate but independently has been a goal of ours for a while, made a little more difficult by the trials of being trans and gay and underemployed, but we've been making it work. This was all fine and dandy and according to plan, as we'd budgeted for our rent and utility bills, and in Tess's car we were able to reach work efficiently.
On Thursday, July 25th at around 7 in the morning, Tess was driving us to work on our normal route, only about a block from our house, when a landscaping vehicle ran his red light and crashed into our car, spinning it 230 degrees to face the opposite direction of the landscaping vehicle. While Tess and I were relatively unhurt, our car was totalled, and the police that arrived seemed uninterested in helping us get the insurance information of the driver that hit us.
Not only did we leave unaware of whether or not the other driver was ticketed, but also we were left without knowing what insurance to contact for the other driver. The police told us it could be up to three days before the accident report reached the system.
Many since have told us that because it's the driver's fault, they should be liable to compensate us for a rental vehicle or any rideshares we need during this time. However, not only do we still have no idea what will happen with regards to the insurance, we also do not have the money to rent a car without the actual aid of the insurance-- something we obviously can't file a claim for until the police report is updated.
Life doesn't stop when you have an accident. We're still
expected to be at work, and need to find a way to get there. We need
help to make this happen, to keep our jobs, and to keep moving.
Any donations from this fundraiser will be used directly for means of transport to and from our place of work (whether it be by means of a rental car, paying others for gas, or a rideshare like Lyft or Uber, which we'd rather avoid in our very expensive area) most likely in the form of a rental car.
Obviously we're all in hard times these days, and I don't expect
much, but if you can spread the word, we'd appreciate your help. We
literally just want to keep our jobs and just don't have the money
for a new car right now, whether or not the insurance can reimburse
us. You have to pay to get reimbursed, and we just can't pay right now.
With your help, we can figure this out- keep getting to work, and hopefully even keep in contact with a lawyer to help us through this case.
