Another school partof the programme

This summer I will be traveling to India where I will be working alongside teachers in local schools to support and coach them in various areas of development.

I will be spending a month in India working with teachers in local schools that face various challenges such as large classes and limited resources as well as planning and delivering conferences for teachers that will share learning and good practice. This page has been set up so that I may raise funds that will help carry out the work of this worthy project.

The Project

This summer, I will be travelling with a programme called LRTT (Limited Resources Teacher Training) where we will be volunteering in Rajpura in the Punjab state located in the north west of India. LRTT will also be running similar projects this summer in Uganda, Tanzania, Cambodia and Nepal.

LRTT equips teachers to deliver engaging, challenging lessons, which develop thinking skills and problem-solving skills for all students. In turn, these students grow up to lead development within their own communities and nations: equipped to drive forward locally owned, sustainable development to change and improve lives.

As a volunteer programme, the project requires funding for the training, conferences and supporting of teachers and schools. This includes:

  • transport for local teachers to and from the conferences

  • hire of the building for conferences

  • compensatory pay toward local teachers in lieu of their teaching wage during conference days (who otherwise would not be able to afford the loss of income by attending)

  • living expenses for local teachers whilst attending conference days

  • resources for conference days

In addition to the costs for the running of the programme, a portion of it covers our basic cost of living (accommodation, food and transport) whilst in India. All other expenses incurred (flights, vaccinations, "spending money", visas, insurance etc.) are not a part of my fundraising target of £1050.

To help me fund this life-changing volunteer project, I am seeking to subsidise the cost in various ways. I will be organising a ‘Bake week’ at school which will involve all things sweet!!!!

Also, this fundrazr page makes it very easy to donate and I will be very grateful to anyone who is able to give whatever sum is affordable….no matter how small.

I thank you in advance for supporting me encounter an experience of a lifetime, not just for me, but for the hundreds of children that will be impacted by the teachers we will work with.

P.S. I am open to comments, requests and suggestions for fundraising, so please don't hesitate to comment!

Research shows that the quality of teaching has a bigger impact upon outcomes than any other factor within a school – and that therefore training great teachers is the smartest, most high-leverage investment an education community can make. Faced with the challenges of increasingly stretched resources, increasingly large class sizes and not enough trained teachers to meet demand, LRTT is the way to do more with less.’
