So I just discovered that my mom, Deborah Colby, is on the verge of becoming homeless.

She has to move out of her apartment in Corte Madera by this weekend; the owners have decided to "upgrade" all of the apartments in the building, leading to increased rent which my mom can't afford to pay. She has nowhere to go and not enough money to cover moving expenses anyway, so I decided to start this fundraiser with the hopes that some of my friends who know her might be willing and able to help out in some way.

And even if you don't know her I still encourage you to help if you can; my mom is totally awesome.

I chose $4000 as my goal because one bedroom apartments/cottages/houses in and around Marin County start at around $1300-1500 a month and generally require first and last months rent up front plus a security deposit, and renting a U-Haul for a day will cost $50-100. It's not much, but if we can get her even just one month it will make a huge difference.

If we're unable to reach this goal by the time she has to move out, some of the money that's been raised will also go to cover storage fees and, if it comes down to it, motel rooms.

I'll be honestly amazed if we reach this goal by this weekend, but I know I've got wonderful friends and crazier things have happened, right?

Oh, and if you can't help financially but are down to help pack/move shit, have a truck or extra boxes, please let me know!
