Edit story

My father was diagnosed with Hepatitis C over 20 years ago. Fortunately for him, it hasn't caused too many problems with his health until now.

About two weeks ago my father was hospitalized due to internal bleeding, a common problem with Hepatitis C patients who are getting into the later stages of Cirrhosis. He was released after a week and several blood transfusions. His next step will be to start seeing specialists and see what he can do to stay as healthy as he can for as long as he can.

While many people start fundraisers to help with medical costs, I have chosen to start one to help my father with one of his dreams, rebuilding his Harley so he can ride again. His once beautiful 55 panhead is now scattered throughout the garage. I think it would be just wonderful for him to be able to spend his free time working with his bike. Since he was told he probably will not be able to work again, he will have plenty of free time and needs a way to occupy his time. He has had the bike for over 30 years and had always kept it nice until he couldn't cover the expenses.

Recently I helped him pay for an engine and transmission rebuild, but there is still much to do. I know it may be a little unusual to be asking for money for his motorcycle when his medical bills will soon be piling up, but I feel it is just as important to have a hobby, and something to look forward to and enjoy.

He'd like to get it put together before September, because thats when our family and friends go on a memorial ride for my brother who passed away in 2011 due to a motorcycle accident. And we'd all love to be able to ride with him anyways!

If you can make a contribution of any sort it will be greatly appreciated. For those of you who know him personally, he has no idea I am doing this, so please don’t let it leak. He has never been one for charity, so I'd like to see how this goes before he finds out.

Plus….everyone likes a surprise!
