By contributing to my fundraiser, you will help me regain a degree of independence that I have recently lost. The money you donate will be used to purchase a suitable hitch and a wheelchair lift for my car. This lift will allow me to transport my chair...

Those who know me, know I've lived with the most severe form of Sickle Cell Disease my entire life. Of the many complications associated with my illness, it's the most recent one that has put me in a wheelchair.

Sickle cells are mishaped and don't carry oxygen as they should. This can cause severe pain and a multitude of other complications. Avascular necrosis (AVN) is the death of bone tissue due to a lack of blood flow and oxygen. AVN has caused the deterioration of my vertebrae, shoulder joints, and most severely, both my hips.

In the past twelve months I've gone from walking with one cane, two canes, a walker, and now am confined to a wheelchair. The condition of my heart has ruled out the posibility of hip replacement surgery.

Thankfully, my insurance has recently supplied me with an electric wheelchair. Unfortunately, my insurance will not cover the cost of a carrier to transport my 200 pound chair on my car. At the suggestion of a family member, I am reaching out to friends and family for help.

By contributing to my fundraiser, you will help me regrain a degree of independence that I have recently lost. The money you donate will be used to purchase a suitable hitch and a wheelchair lift for my car. This lift will allow me to transport my chair to my doctor's appointments and other locations.

Thank you for time and for your contribution.

Sincerely,

   Jon Monk
