Spring Break Wood Watches hasn't added a story.
On February 22, 2014, Co-Founders of Springbreak Wood Watches, Kwame Molden and Maurice Davis, will be donating 200 loaves of bread to families with children in Fayetteville, North Carolina, who are struggling with issues with hunger. Born and raised in Fayetteville, we decided to give back to the community and city that raised us and continue our mission of helping to end childhood hunger in America.
Food is a basic need and the fact that so many children go without enough to eat in Fayetteville is an injustice.
According to the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), 15.9 million children under 18 in the United States live in households where they are unable to consistently access enough nutritious food necessary for a healthy life. Although food insecurity is harmful to any individual, it can be particularly devastating among children due to their increased vulnerability and the potential for long-term consequences.
With this in mind, we are launching the SPGBK Bread for Life Campaign on February 22, 2014 in Fayetteville, North Carolina, with the intent of expanding to multiple cities across the United States. To expand our reach, we are accepting donations here to purchase more bread, which will be given out to deserving families in the area on this special day.
We decided to give out loaves of bread for these key reasons:
- Bread is a staple part of a healthy eating pattern.
- Children can create easy-to-make meals with bread, such as toast or sandwiches.
- Bread is cost-effective, and it will encourage positive buying behaviors for the future.
- Bread lasts for an average of 5-7 days, which is a allot of meals for a family in need.
- It can be used to make multiple meals for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
To commemorate the day, we will engrave the names of the individuals and organizations that donate on an 'Official Bread for Life Plaque', which will be given to the city of Fayetteville to show our commitment to our children.
Our unique idea of donating 200 loaves of bread is a small step in the right direction for a much bigger issue. We must all do our part to end hunger throughout the world. By donating and supporting our campaign, you will be showing your commitment to the children in the Fayetteville community and confronting the overwhelming problem of hunger head on.
To ensure that the bread is distributed to appropriate families and areas in need, we will be partnering with local non-profits and churches to find specific homes in our community that are underserved.
Please help and join us in helping our neighbors and ending hunger once and for all.
