Last year I won the lottery at work and was given a spot in the Boston Marathon. Due to last year's tragedy, I've been given a spot again this year by the generosity of the BAA.  Although I'm not required to fundraise this year, I wouldn't feel right if I didn't and since I can do whatever I want, this year I'm running for X-Man.

Who is X-man you ask?  He is a Xavier, a 10 year old superhero who's been battling his evil Kryptonite (type 1 diabetes) most of his young life.  He has fought this evil monster with heroic bravery and with a mighty super hero family.  They have consistently used all their powers to fight off young Xavier's arch nemesis and although they've kept it from winning the battle, the battle never stops and it continues to poke him with needles,  scary nights of near hospital stays, trips from Windham NH to Children's hospital in Boston, not being able to enjoy some of the things that make childhood so enjoyable (like ice cream and cookies), and the evil monster takes a great financial toll with out of pocket medical expenses, traveling to Boston and missed work for his superhero mom.

If not for Xavier's super hero dad I would not be running the Boston Marathon.  He is the creator of Age Aggressively.  Age Aggressively is an inspirational Blog (, Facebook page and real life racing team created by old friend Todd Spencer.  I was wanting to live healthier but was very much out of shape.   He didn't care, didn't judge me, and welcomed me to his team.  From the unhealthy couch dweller to the Olympic level triathlete, all are welcome to join the team at start line and encouraged through to the finish. The Spencer's offer inspiration and encouragement to people of all fitness levels even while they are in a constant state of war against type 1 Diabetes.   X-Man's mom is a super hero yoga instructor who also welcomes people of all flexibilities.  She is his shield, his protector and his pancreas.   X-man's big brother Max is a strong weapon in the battle as well.  He is very supportive and protective of his brother.  He has the super hero ability to often catch the enemy and call on the troops for battle before the monster can win a fight.  He has the keen eye to see if it's attacking by noticing changes in his brother's behavior.   Type 1 diabetes has picked the wrong family to mess with.  Although they are strong, fierce and proud, I believe as a team we can help them fight the monster by surprising them with a financial weapon that will take some worry away and make them stronger in this never-ending battle.

All proceeds will go directly to the Spencers as a cash weapon for them to use however they see fit to fight off X-man's Kryptonite.  If you know the Spencers, please do not "like" this page.  The plan is to surprise them with this "weapon" and present it to our team captain as a team.   I aggressively ask that we keep this a secret from them so please use caution when sharing on FB so that they do not see the link.  Thank you Aggressives for your support!
