Help give this family the home they desperately need
Dear Friend,
Remember Haiti? Four years ago after the earthquake it was all over the news and in our hearts, now the most we often hear is “Where did all of the money go?” There is a lot of blame going around, but instead of joining in the blame I have personallycommitted to travel to Haiti and help man named Evenson and his family by building them a home March 8 – 14, 2014 as part of a team of ten volunteers. I am humbly asking for the help of my friends to accomplish this.
I know that charity requests are a dime a dozen so I want to tell you why I believe this is a good cause, where your money will go, and why I have chosen to give my own money and time to help Evenson and his family. And if you can’t help now I completely understand, times are tough financially and I appreciate you reading this and sending your thoughts and prayers with our team.
I will be working with a very small non-profit organization called One Small House; theywere founded 12 years ago by Rob Katz, who is running our trip. They are unique in thattheir administrative costs are completely covered by their board members so if you give one dollar then Evenson’s family will receive one dollar in materials from their home. Todate One Small House has built over 80 homes and community facilities in Mexico, Haiti, Louisiana and Mississippi.
Evenson story is that due to the tough post earthquake conditions in Port Au Prince heand his wife had to send three of their children to an orphanage as they could not care forthem. They were so dedicated to watching their children that they lived in a tent outsidethe orphanage. When a young Canadian volunteer at the orphanage named MorganWienberg realized that these three kids in the orphanage had a family living outside sheimmediately took the kids to their parents and offered her support so they did not have tolive in an abusive orphanage.
Morgan paid for three of the children to go to school and since the family had nowhere to go she rented a house for them. Later she bought a piece of land for them but the family has not been able to afford to build a home, that is where we come in!!!
Evenson’s wife makes a living by selling small beauty products like soap and shampoo. Evenson has a passion for making bread and plans to build a bakery once their home is finished. They have five children and sadly they recently had their youngest child die of an unknown illness, this is the light skinned child pictured in the photo.
Please help this family "God Bless"
With great love and appreciation
