On the 26th January, 2005, my son Alex was 7 and my daughter Izzie was 5. This was to be my first year as a 'solo' Mum. On that Australia Day we decided, the three of us, to go on an Adventure! We climbed, for the first time ever, Mt Cooroora at Pomona. It was raining and windy and very scary with two small children but we made it! And we felt like we were on the top of the world when we made it to the top. I will never forget the kids faces - pride, exhilaration, smiles and sheer happiness. We decided on the Mountain that day, that we would make it our 'new family tradition' and do it every Australia Day. And we have. For the past ten years. Many friends have joined us over the years but this year, to commemorate our achievement we want to do something special. Marc Burton last year was the first amputee to ever compete at the King of the Mountain event in July. And he smashed it! So much that he was invited to go on and do Tough Mudder ... and he smashed that. All with a general prosthetic leg. We want him to continue to inspire others, to keep smashing his fitness goals and to continue to be able to take on big events. All of this would be so much easier for Marc and far less painful with the use of a 'Blade' prosthetic leg. However, the cost, is $4,500. Marc has done so much for so many and is always the first to put his hand up to help others. He recently single handedly raised of $3,000 for the Sporting Dreams Foundation for Athletes with Disabilities. We want to help Marc. We are inviting everyone on the coast to join us on our 10th Anniversary climb on Australia Day. Marc will be there too. To join in we are asking for a 'voluntary' donation of $20 per person. If you cant join us for the climb, you are welcome to donate anyway and if you can make the climb but can't afford $20, donate what ever you can (no donation required from kids). The link to the fundraising page is here: On behalf of Alex, Izzie, Marc and his family, we look forward to seeing as many of you as possible on the day.
