My name is Collene and, if you know me, you know that Sickle Cell Disease is a huge part of my life and I am extremely dedicated to spreading awareness of the disease to anyone willing to listen. When I was eight months old I was diagnosed with Sickle Cell Disease, a hereditary blood disorder that has no widely available cure. Those diagnosed with Sickle Cell Disease suffer from extreme vulnerability to infection, jaundice, deterioration of joints, delayed growth, recurrent severe pain episodes, strokes, blindness, kidney, liver, spleen, gallstones, lungs, bones, joints, skin leg ulcers, and shortened life expectancy. With frequent trips to the hospital, people with Sickle Cell have the challenging task of managing their health, especially while in college. In order to alleviate the financial stress of college from students dealing with the disease and allow them more time to focus on their health and studies, I have decided to create a scholarship on their behalf. So, for my 25th birthday, please join me in raising money for a college scholarship dedicated to helping students battling Sickle Cell Disease.
