Hello everyone,

My name is Isabel Griffiths, I am 21 and currently studying Chemistry at the University of Sheffield, but as some of you may already know I am applying to medical school this autumn with the future prospect of becoming a doctor – being able to aid and care for people is something I have always wanted to do and the main reason behind this appeal.

I am travelling to Malawi in August to act as a medical volunteer amongst some of the poorest and most underprivileged communities in the whole of Africa – this is a project I really believe in and my goal is to raise as much money as possible in order for me to make the most of this venture and help these people to the best of my ability. As you can imagine this is a very important cause, volunteers like me are necessary in order to help these poor communities, without people like us they would have no or very little education in disease prevention, sexual health and general medicine. I personally will be helping in an orphanage; organizing malaria prevention programmes; raising HIV and AIDS awareness and helping out at local field clinics in order to offer as much medical help as I can as part of an organized project. I will also be setting up home based care programmes in a village, helping to educate the community in personal hygiene, first aid and nutrition, something we in a well-developed know a lot about but in a third world country such as Malawi they have very little knowledge of; it is the small things like this that really make a difference to their daily lives. The more money raised the more we will be able to help these people and fulfil my purpose of being there as a volunteer.

In order to raise this money and help these people, I am taking part in the Sheffield Half Marathon this year and also hosting an African themed evening where there will be a raffle, quiz, food and much more - a night which I hope many of you will be able to attend. There are also other things in the pipeline and any donations to this will be much appreciated as without it I will not be able to reach my goal. You are able to donate securely and easily through Fundrazr, just see the terms and conditions of payment via Paypal through this website.

I truly feel that this is a great cause and whether or not you decide to make a donation, I thank you for taking the time to read my appeal page. Any donations will help me achieve a better life for those less fortunate than ourselves.

Thank you very much,

Isabel
