As many of you know, Paul and Martha Sharkey gave birth to twin girls in November of 2010. Claire and Mary were born at 23.5 weeks. Mary was only with us for 2 short weeks. Claire is a thriving 2-year-old with all signs pointing to a healthy, promising future ahead of her. It is truly a miracle and an example of the power of prayer, love and expectations. Claire fought 103 days in the NICU of Abington Memorial Hospital before being released to come home to her loving family. Since then, Martha and Paul have been giving back in multiple ways - the March of Dimes foundation, volunteering their time and money to families in the Abington NICU and more. They have been talking recently about how to take their support to the next level and have been dreaming of a small foundation, started in Mary's honor, to support families in the NICU. While the foundation's official name is not final, the idea is "Today is a Good Day" stems from Martha and Paul's belief that you really have to take one day at a time and be thankful for daily blessings. They are hoping to start a foundation to remind families of this message and offer practical and emotional support throughout their path in the NICU, whatever it may be. To begin a 501-c-3 in PA, you need $500 in start up costs. While the full blueprint has yet to be laid out, certainly, the start up costs are an important step that WE can help them with. Please please please consider giving this holiday season to help raise the funds needed to actualize their vision. Every dollar will help!
