(WHTM) - Valentine's Day can be a day to raise awareness and to get more people to sign up and give the gift of life. Dwendy Johnson is with the 'Gift of Life' donor program. "We have over 8,000 people in Pennsylvania alone that are in need of a lifesaving organ transplants," she said. That includes 40-year-old mother of two Yanira Barona. She's spent 48 days waiting for a new heart at Penn State Hershey Medical Center. "I have cardio myopathy, and it's an unknown virus to the heart that attacked my heart," she said. Her enlarged heart makes it hard for her to breathe. She's tired. Even walking is a challenge. "I was diagnosed in 2000. They told me I had five years to live," she said. "I'm still here and I still have more to go. God hears my plans and he knows He's got a purpose and a plan for me and this is not it." Now, faith and medications are keeping her alive. "I've got drips of life, that's what I call them," she said. "They keep my heart beating." She urges others to become an organ donor. "You are sharing a gift of life, and life goes on. I would be very grateful for that," she said.
