We are a "Think-Tank" providing unbiased information to the media and policy-makers about difficult issues in the care and treatment of people with serious mental illness (Not "mental health"). Being honest about this population requires addressing difficult issues like violence, involuntary treatment, the need for psychiatric hospitals and other issues many organizations prefer to avoid. We accept no contributions from government or the health care industry so that we can "talk truth to power" in a way that most organizations can not. Our work is done by families of people with mental illness and people with mental illness who understand the issue and donate their time. We have no salaries. We do however have office expenses, printing expenses, web site expenses, and other expenses associated with spreading our message. Thanks for your help. DJ Jaffe Executive Director (Note: The photo you are seeing is of Kendra Webdale and Andrew Goldstein. Kendra was an aspiring journalist pushed to her death in front of a subway train by a young man, Andrew Goldstein, who had schizophrenia and a history of violence and was allowed to go untreated. Today he is permanently incarcerated. The policies we espouse would have helped Andrew access treatment, so the tragedy would have never happened).
