Britannia Outreach is an Indigenous focused school where indigenous learning and curriculum are at the forefront of all our studies. In this program we are dedicated to meeting youth where they are at in all capacities of their lives.
In some cases, students do not have weather appropriate clothing or shoes, this grant could mean the school would be able to provide rain coats, rain boots, snow and winter gear as well as moving into warmer weather. It is important for the youth to be comfortable through the seasons.
At Outreach we would be able to take youth shopping for clothing and food during school hours. This not only allows us to support the basic needs of clothing, food and hygiene but also enhances future life skills incorporating budget and finance planning. These one to one outings provide social emotional support to our youth and allows for curriculum to weave its way into the shopping experience.
A lot of our families have endured intergenerational trauma as well as distrust with the education system. Our goal is to create and build safe and meaningful relationships with our families. At times, this can begin with some extra supports in areas of need.
Assisting and helping at holiday times and graduation is also something Outreach covers. Holidays and grad add an extra stress on all families. We provide individualized hampers of food and gifts during the winter holiday season.

The Vancouver Sun Children’s Fund has been running our Adopt-a-School campaign for more than a decade now.
These past two years have been challenging and we know that the need for food security and other basic living necessities for many British Columbia children and their families is greater than ever.
We know that Vancouver Sun readers, who since 1981 have supported the fund’s charitable work and the programs that we provide to help needy children, will continue to help us improve this situation. We are grateful for that, and for the opportunity to make a difference.
Since our first Adopt-a-School campaign ran in 2011 we have disbursed more than $9 million to schools and community organizations in British Columbia. Your generous donations have supported tens of thousands of students each year.
When you donate to the Vancouver Sun Children's Fund, 100 per cent of your donation goes to to help children in need; there is no money taken from donations to cover administration costs.
