Vancouver has some of Canada's poorest neighbourhoods. There's a lot of youth here who do not go to university, or even finish high school. For some of them, they may not have someone that they can look up to as a positive role model. One person cared enough about a young Muhammad Ali so he could better direct his energies, and he became the heavyweight boxing champion of the world, and was someone who stood up for his beliefs.
Eastside Boxing Club (ESB) is that person who can guide Vancouver's at-risk youth.
I'm training as a contender for ESB's annual fundraiser- Aprons for Gloves/Restaurant Rumble, raises money for its community programs:
● Youth Program - after-school boxing program for at-risk
youth
● Buddy Boxing - after-school boxing for younger kids that
also provides a leadership opportunity for Youth Program
participants
● Frontline Fight Club - for first responders and
those working on the frontline of the opioid epidemic
● Parents
and Tots (currently on hiatus due to financial impacts of the
pandemic - we hope to resume this program with help of your fundraising!)

I'm training hard with classes twice per week, with cardio, weight-lifting, and yoga when I'm not at the gym. With your support, ESB can help run its programs for more people who could benefit from them.
ESB is not a registered charity, so there are no tax receipts. If you

Founded in 2012, Aprons for Gloves Boxing Association is a non-profit organization focused on providing community outreach through the sport of boxing. Based in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside, the organization was developed by a small group of professionals and entrepreneurs who seized an opportunity to re-establish a historic boxing program for at-risk women and youth. Through Eastside Boxing Club, the program offers free mentorship and training to individuals who may otherwise not have the resources or support to participate in such activities. Why boxing? Because it's a sport that teaches discipline, respect, hard work and self-control. Consistent training results in positive self-esteem, good mental and physical health and social support through peers.
Restaurant Rumble 2022
Every year bartenders, chefs, dishwaters, servers, baristas and all sorts of individuals from the Vancouver community get together to train at Eastside Boxing Club to fight in Restaurant Rumble.
In order to continue training, each contender is required to
meet fundraising milestones along the way. Ultimately, raising $2000
for charity makes them eligible to compete at the Rumble.
