ENGLISH:
Dear family and friends,
I hope you've had a wonderful year and the new one nearing treats you even better.
My birthday is nearing and in lieu of presents and well wishes I thought to ask you to help me complete my thesis project. I'm nearing graduation this coming May. Completing a Masters of Fine Arts at the School of Visual Arts. A lot of sweat and tears has gone in the last year and a half. With some happy, frustrated ,giggly and simply confusing sweat and tears. I couldn’t be more thankful for it. All of those efforts have made way for this coming project, lending the language and ideas to make it possible. There’s a monetary goal in mind and I’d like your help reaching it, but even if you contribute for enough for a cup of coffee, I would appreciate it Immensely. I’ll be keeping you afloat on the progress of the project, and I would also like to gift a sketch or drawing of my projects for any contribution.
Here below is a summary and a description of my Thesis proposal as well as a link to a playlist I made to help ease into the craziness of the Holidays.

I hope you find a genuine interest in the project.
All the best and thanks for your time.
Happy holidays :)

Intentions Drag
Project Summary
A set of larger than life size heads sink in the ground, peaking right above their lips. Snouts of dogs also peak around them. These sculptures speak to the lasting effects of child abuse and a loss of innocence. They will be be installed on rooftops visible from a higher rooftop or train station.
Project Description
For my Thesis project “Intentions drag” I’d like to develop a set of monumetal sculptural pieces pertaining to the effects of child abuse without resorting to salacious or triggering visuals.
The sculptures will consist on the replication of two distinct figures. The first, a monumental head with a passive expression, seemingly sinking into the ground. The second, dog snouts, aggressively sneering their teeth peeking from the ground. I intend to fabricate 4-6 of the heads and 8-12 variations of of the dog snouts that will surround the heads.
These will all be displayed in a set of rooftops outdoors, all visible from a higher viewpoint and a broader public. Considering the scale and display setting my hope is to utilize high quality long lasting materials that may endure the effects of weather and the duress of time. The Ideal materials are strong and lightweight, this will considerably facilitate the production and installation of the pieces.
There are 3 steps for the fabrication of both the head and the dog snouts.
- Development of sculpture positive: Create a foam base and cover this base with clay to shape the figure. (1 month)
- Creation of mold: Use plaster gauze and silicone rubber. (1 week)
- Casting in Epoxamite resin, ideally. (1- 2 weeks)
This project manifests its ideas through the gesture of the figures and their setting of display. It also work work in cannon with a body of work developed in the previous semesters, including the sculptural piece “The Strength and Vulnerabilities of innocence”, a wall sculpture diptych titled “Situations”, and a large scale painting still in progress. In these previous bodies of work a heroine has been introduced, she bears the effects of abuse. Burdened with isolation, compassion and an uninvited yet inevitable strength.
“Intentions drag” features a young figure sinking, existing after the fact, after the incident that weighs her down. They sink peeking right above their lips, silent and hurt, surrounding them are snouts of dogs sneering at them, indicative of a familiar violence they don’t understand. As a kid growing up in Bogota stray dogs were a common thing, on the way to school, crossing the street, and riding on a bumpy road. Always accompanied by a desire to befriend, and play with them while knowing that they might bite my hand.
This tension is familiar to the experiences of trauma. Having a desire to be loved and to be looked after only to mistake that love for damaging behavior, having to grow up sooner than others. Through the testimonials of family, friends and strangers, it is easy to know how endemic the fragility of innocence is. Dogs in art have also been often depicted in the majesty of predatory hoards, leaping to catch the vulnerable hare or the wounded duck. The hope to display this pieces in rooftops is to allocate them above several homes, suggesting how ubiquitous child abuse is and how overlooked it is, tucked away silently in attics while always knowing they are there.

ESPAÑOL:
Querida familia y amigos,

Felices Fiestas :)

“Intentions Drag” o “Intenciones Arrastran”
