Altar Digital - Video Mapping La Calaca Festival
My name is Tomas Burkey, and I'm a multi dimensional artist living and working in San Miguel De Allende, Mexico. I am also a co-founder of the La Calaca Festival.
In Mexico we remember our dead with by celebrating with festivities full of colors , dancing, food, music and tequila.
With the digital Altar we commemorate those who have passed by
projecting a photograph of the friends and family in creative and
beautiful way inspired in the traditions of Day of the Dead. We invite
you to support this project and be an integral part of this amazing
art piece sending your photos and donations. WE will send you back
also a photo of your loved ones as they appear in the altar!
This altar takes place in the context of the La Calaca Festival
in San Miguel de Allende. La Calaca, the first of its kind, is an
international, participatory festival which celebrates Day of the
Dead with several events involving urban art, fashion, music, Talks
and much more. It is a mix of contemporary art and culture with deep traditions.
We invite you to accompany us as we create a link between the
past and the present, bringing our dead back and dancing like
calacas. This year's theme is to raise awareness of the animals we
have lost and those that are in danger of extinction.

Este altar tiene lugar en el contexto del Festival de La Calaca en San Miguel de Allende. La Calaca, la primera de su tipo, es un festival internacional participativo que celebra el Día de los Muertos con varios eventos que involucran arte urbano, moda, música, charlas y mucho más. Es una mezcla de arte contemporáneo y cultura con profundas tradiciones.
Te invitamos a que nos acompañes mientras creamos un vínculo entre el pasado y el presente, conmemorando a nuestros muertos y bailando como calacas. El tema de este año es crear conciencia sobre los animales que hemos perdido y aquellos que están en peligro de extinción.
