Iosipitsa Helen hasn't added a story.
Hi, my name is Mirela and I am writing to you this letter because I need help, and I don’t know how to manage this situation by myself.
Our story starts when we decided to adopt a cat. After that everything was changed! Four years ago we went to a cat shelter in Limassol, Cyprus. We found there a 4-months frighten kitten, scared and not quite friendly. We fall in love with the kitten in seconds. After half hour my husband managed to get him and put him in the transport cage. The kitten was really scared at the beginning, but slowly he start to know us, to explore the house, and to become friendly. We named him Tommy. For us the cat was like our child, everything was spinning around him, he became everything for us!
One and half year later, one day I heard a meow but I could not see any cat around, finally somewhere in a bush I found a small kitten, very sick, sitting like he was almost dead. I took him, I gave him a good bath, I fed him and next day I brought him to the vet. The doctor told us that the kitten was around 4-5 weeks old and he was very sick; his lungs were covered with liquid and he need special care and a lot of antibiotics. Three weeks I gave him treatment, every day I woke up at 5 am just for him. We named him Aky! Tommy and Aky became like brothers, Tommy taught Aky how to be a cat, showed him how to jump on the table, how to fish in the aquarium… Time passed and now they are our kids, our soul, I can’t find the right words to explain what I feel for them!
Two years ago we started the procedure for migration to Australia, after a long way and also drained all our savings, we got the visa. At the same time, we searched through the internet about the procedure for pets import to Australia. We realised that this will not be easy, and also will not be cheap. Our plan was to leave the cats for a month or two with the company which will export them here; meantime, we will find work here, save some money and continue the procedure to bring them here. Unfortunately the plan was not really good. We arrived here but our settlement cost was more money than we thought, and we could not find jobs as we wanted, so now our cats are in Cyprus, kept in a cage from the shelter of the export company since 12th of September, and we are here without the possibility to bring them here soon. There is another problem with the cats. At the end of January the rabies vaccine will expire and they have to stay there for another 6 months. Two weeks ago I start a casual job, but still, I can’t save such a big amount in such a short time. We are trying to find somebody to help us with the amount required to bring them over here, which is roughly estimated around $6000 (we will be able to save an extra $1000 in the next 2-3 weeks, but the cost of the quarantine here in Australia is estimated at $1900-$2000, and the cost of the company from Cyprus is around €2500). It may not sound like a lot of money, because they are actually not, but for us is impossible to get them fast. We will not accept any donation, we just want to lend the money necessary to get our family over here, because they are part of our family. We took good care of many other cats, we paid a lot of money for the food and medical treatments for stray cats back in Cyprus, and we made donations to different cat shelters while we were in Cyprus. We are willing to pay back as soon as we will be able to all the money given to us. Thank you for your understanding.
I look forward to hearing from you as soon as possible.
Best Regards,
Mirela Elena Haritonov
