We don't remember what day it was when we were plucked away from our mama while we were still trying to nurse.  Though big enough to wean, we were both so hungry and malnourished, we struggled to nurse for as long as we could. We don't remember ... More ...

We don't remember what day it was when we were plucked away from our mama while we were still trying to nurse.  Though big enough to wean, we were both so hungry and malnourished, we struggled to nurse for as long as we could.

We don't remember where we slept that first night.  Dumped in a strange unfamiliar place, we followed the truck for awhile, but they drove away too fast for us to keep up.  As darkness approached, we don't remember If we found shelter beneath a pile of leaves, or if we tried to mimic mama's warmth and huddled together out in the open.

We don't remember what we ate that first night, nor the second, nor the third...  We don't remember how loudly our tiny bellies rumbled, nor do we remember how badly they ached after eating a few pieces of rancid roadkill we stumbled upon, only after fighting off the buzzards.  For all we know, it could have been a littermate-- we just don't remember.  We were starving.

We don't remember the day we were found by strangers, nor do we recall being gently held in the arms of our rescuers.

The majority of our lives has been nothing but a blur--all the hurt, the desperation, the hunger and sickness; and our tiny bodies starving and broken.  We received much needed medical treatment and will recover from our sarcoptic mange.  Our signature speckled Heeler coats will be beautiful again soon.  Because of our rescuers, we will heal and grow into the magnificent dogs we know we can become. We will learn quickly and be unconditionally committed to the person willing to give us a chance. Once we are returned to health, our spirits will shine. Please help us find that light.
