Thousands of underage inmates suffer in jail cells throughout our country with little or no legal representation to ensure their constitutional rights...feeling lost, alone, and believing no one cares about them. Florida Inmates Union seeks to ...

Joey is fourteen years old…and looks twelve. He’s a slight, freckled teenager, with a crooked smile, who dreams of all the things other kids his age dream of…with one difference. Joey is one of the thousands of teenagers incarcerated in adult prisons. Coming from a broken home, he was befriended by older teens in a gang. The friendship eventually led to vandalism, thefts, and a killing. Although Joey did not pull the trigger, he was arrested, and sent to prison for his part in the crime.

Joey’s story is just one of too many across America where youngsters are sentenced as adults and sent to prisons. The trauma of these lives inside jail cells, is exaggerated by loneliness, abuse, and a lack caring and adequate representation to ensure his rights are not violated.

Inmates Union is designed to fill in that gap. Funds will provide legal and paralegal support to underage inmates while liasing with Public Defenders and professional associations. Your financial help would mean the difference in keeping those young people safe, maintaining their constitutional rights and getting them on the road to recovered lives. This, as they face their time moving back into society and looking toward successful futures in their communities.
