I had my reservations and criticisms of this Ice Bucket Challenge but I watched one video that really changed everything for me.  Yes, It is cheesy at first but please watch it until the end.  It's important.  It matters.  It will change the way you think.  Maybe not about the challenge but maybe about the importance of research and funding for this disease.  It did for me.

I have hurt people with my criticism and letting my ego be bigger than this cause.  I am truly sorry for that.  I had no idea how horrifying this disease could be until I watched the video.  A friend of mine lost her father to ALS.  These are her own words:

So this is how this is going to work:

My goal is to raise $1000 that will go to directly to

It is an ALL-OR-NOTHINGNo $1000---> no ice bucket. Any money raised with still go to the charity but I won't do the ice bucket until I hit my goal. So get out your piggy banks because it's all about racking up the donations.  No amount too small; it all adds up.

Once I hit $1000, I will take the challenge, film it.  I will then challenge three other people to come up with a creative campaign to do the same.

Do you accept my challenge??

ALS Quick Facts:

ALS can strike anyone.

ALS occurs throughout the world with no racial, ethnic or socioeconomic boundaries.

The onset of ALS is insidious with muscle weakness or stiffness as early symptoms. Progression of weakness, wasting and paralysis of the muscles of the limbs and trunk as well as those that control vital functions such as speech, swallowing and later breathing generally follows.

There can be significant costs for medical care, equipment and home health caregiving later in the disease.
