Ruhanga Developmet School  - South West Uganda

I will be volunteering for 2 weeks in November at a rural community school project.  I will be involved in

  • Help care and supervise the youngest children
  • General repair and maintenance work around the site from plastering, bricklaying, lime washing to fixing tables and chairs
  • Work alongside medical staff at the school's on site medical centre
  • Help the local teacher with a class
  • Take a class of your own, teach entry level very basic Maths (5+5=10 etc) and English (simple words and phrases and spellings)
  • Help introduce children to computers at the school's new computer lab 

I am raising money for the following equipemnet:

Navy Royal or black school sweaters and cardigans Navy black or very dark grey shorts or trousers Navy or black skirts or pinafores White shirts or pale blue (all up to age 9 years) Children’s football kit Balls, bats, frisbees and other sports equipment Colouring books (They tear out a page for each child) Pretty craft items (glittery sprinkles, bright coloured paper) Scissors, glue, crayons and lead pencils Soft bodied dolls with fixed arms and legs, small toy cars and Action Men Additional UGANDAN text books (a good school bookshop lies 50km away in Mbarara). Toddlers Picture books - ladybirds ABC are ideal Young children’s picture dictionaries etc
