Gallery Nectar is an artist run space with a 52 sq.m. gallery and a same sized performance basement. It is located in the district of old Tbilisi with half ruined classic and modernist architecture of the XIX- XX centuries and small shops managed by local inhabitants. Nectar is focused on bringing contemporary art closer to the public and the integration of art in public life.

The starting point for Nectar’s activities was a research trip in the regions of Georgia since the contemporary art initiatives are mainly concentrated in Tbilisi while the regions of Georgia suffer from lack of artistic events. Nectar therefore intends to promote regional as well as outsider art and make the regional art scene more active.

Nectar was opened in June 2013. Since then eight exhibitions opened in the gallery, often the exhibited artists where exhibited for first time, as some kind of platform for there carrier. Nectar is the only artist run space in Tbilisi. Its initiators never exhibit their own works in Nectar. Invited Artist(s) or Curator(s) get to use the space without any payment. Till now the gallery doesn’t have any financial support. It is only funded by the initiators.

Gallery Nectar has been kindly invited to Basel Art Fair/Liste in June 2014– one of the most important fairs for contemporary young art in the world.

Gallery Nectar will present the following at Liste:

– Project of David Bostanashvili according on architectural sketches by Shota Bostanashvili.

– Ceramic objects by Artist Thea Gvetadze

– Gobelins by Tamaz Nutsubidze.

D. Bostanashvili and T. Gvetadze will realize their projects especially for Basel Art Fair/Liste.

As to make Gallery Nectar’s exhibition at Liste happen (production costs, transport, flights), we rely totally on financial contributions through Crowdfunding.
