How do you get to Carnegie Hall? Practice! And a little help from your family and friends!
It may be an adage whose origin is lost to the annals of time, but the saying remains true — if you want to get to Carnegie Hall, you need to practice, practice, practice! But you also need to pay for airfare, ground transportation, hotel rooms, registration fees, etc., etc., etc.!
The Orlando Deanery Boychoir and Girls Choir have received a personal invitation to sing for the inaugural "Choirs of America" Nationals for High School & Youth Choirs at Carnegie Hall this coming June. Following on the heels of their hugely successful performance at the White House in 2011 and tour to England in 2012, the choristers now find themselves raising funds for their next exciting venture. As parents of singers in these prestigious choirs, we're appealing on behalf of our daughters Meghan and Madison and son Mark who have to raise a combined $5,100 to participate.
During the event, participating choirs will enjoy adjudicated performances, on-stage performance reviews, observational requirements and full one-hour clinics. On the final day, Grant Gershon (director of the Los Angeles Master Chorale and resident conductor of the L.A. Opera) will take over to lead a massed choir rehearsal followed by a spectacular concert in the Isaac Stern Auditorium at Carnegie Hall, one of the most prestigious venues in the world for both classical music and popular music.
In addition to their time spent at Carnegie Hall, the Orlando Deanery Choirs have also been selected to serve as guest choir at Saint Thomas Church while in New York City. Designed in the French High Gothic Revival style, Saint Thomas Church was established in 1824. The choir will also perform a concert at Trinity Church Wall Street in lower Manhattan. Trinity Church, a classic example of Gothic Revival architecture, was built in 1845.
Yes, our children need YOUR help. You may wish to sponsor the full cost of one child's tour at $1,700 or contribute ANY amount to their personal Tour Scholarship Fund. Please consider a generous donation. And if you know someone else with a giving heart, we're always grateful for their financial support and prayers, too!
NOW is the time to give! How easy is it? To contribute to their Tour Scholarship Fund, simply click the orange 'Give' button on this page. If you can't make an online payment, simply mail a check payable to the Cathedral Church of St. Luke, but please designate the name of our children in the memo: Choir Tour - [CHILD'S NAME].
YOU can make a difference, by helping them experience the performance of a lifetime. We have $5,100 to raise in a short time, and we thank you in advance for your consideration!
