With inspiration from The Birthday Project, my daughter is raising money to donate to our local zoo's construction of the new orangutan center for her 10th birthday!

-A story inspired by The Birthday Project -

My daughter has had her eye on this fence since it was first placed in the Indianapolis Zoo over a year ago. (Photo Credit: Fox59 news)

She has three favorite places in the zoo: the shark tank, the roller coaster, and the organutan exhibit. We have walked by this fence over a dozen times now on our way to the Kombo Coaster; each time with her reading me the names of the orangutans as we pass. One day in February, she came home from school and announced that she had started collecting money to donate to the animals. After some consideration, we decided that this year, we would use the money to gift to the Indianapolis Zoo for the construction of their new Orangutan Center.

The Indianapolis Zoo empowers people and communities, both locally and globally, to advance animal conservation. The Zoo is a world-renowned facility and the first to be accredited as a zoo, an aquarium, and a botanical garden. It is home to more than 2,000 animals, including many species that are threatened or endangered.

Her donation will be matched by the Margot Lacey Eccles Community Challenge if we reach a $500 donation level, resulting in the Orangutan Center receiving a $1000 gift. Her goal is to reach $1000 on her own and have the Margot Lacey Eccles Community Challenge match her gift by 33%. She can reach her goal with just one donation of $15 per day until May 1st.

A history of her giving:

In 2013, she donated approximately $150 to the World Wildlife Fund for her 9th birthday. She also visited the Indianapolis Zoo on her birthday and left 51¢ on the Penny Collector machines for other kids at the Zoo.

In 2012, her competition cheer squad donated $50 to the Animal Amigo program at the Indianapolis Zoo to support the zebras.

Please share this story and help her reach her goal!
