We are taking 38 people from Big Ben to Old Joe (about 130miles) on the 22nd February in aid of Cyclists Fighting Cancer.

A bit about Cyclists Fighting Cancer (taken from their website):

We gift new bikes, tandems and specially adapted trikes to children and young people who have been affected by cancer throughout the UK.  The effects of the disease and its treatments in children are numerous including amputations, balance issues, physical weakness, coordination difficulties, lack of self esteem and these are just a few of the most common side effects seen in many patients.

Exercise has been shown in numerous adult studies to be the single most effective way of improving both physical and mental wellness for people surviving cancer.  We encourage cycling as the best form of exercise based rehabilitation especially for children because it provides all these benefits in a low impact, fun, sociable and exciting way.

Cancer also causes massive disruption in families, therefore we also gift bikes to their siblings and in many cases their parents in order that they can take part in an activity as a family once again, after what can be years of hospitalisation and upheaval.

Part of the money is also going to the Green Bike Project.

The Green Bike Project is a co-operatively run bicycle workshop on the campus of the University of Birmingham; we provide tools for our members to use and also hold events on cycling and sustainable transport.

What we mainly do is teach people to work on their own bikes. Many people already know how to work on bikes, that’s fine too, we’re here if you need us. We try to be hands-off with bike repair so that you have the space and time to learn at your own pace but if you have any questions then ask and we’ll do our best to help.

We could really use your help to raise the money we need
