What is Football Aid?

The concept of Football Aid is simple - to allow fans, who have only been able to dream about it, the chance to experience the thrill of match day: to pull on their favourite shirt, walk down the tunnel to the sound of the crowd and play an adrenaline fuelled football match on the hallowed turf of the Club they support.

Field of Dreams was established in conjunction with Football Aid as a grant making charity by Scottish businessman, Craig Paterson in August 2000 with the purpose of raising funds to find a cure for Type 1 Juvenile Diabetes: a condition his son was diagnosed with at the age of 10. Over the years, while retaining this core focus, Field of Dreams' aims broadened into more generally improving the quality of life for young people with diabetes through education and increased ability to manage the condition.

Although a fan of football himself, he had always been astonished by how much people were prepared to spend on football memorabilia and it made him wonder how much they would pay to live the dream of scoring a goal at Parkhead, Anfield or Old Trafford. The concept of Football Aid was born: the experience of a lifetime giving football fans the chance to step into the boots of their heroes and play for their club or country at famous grounds.

What am I doing?

I will be playing 45 minutes in a football match at Celtic Park around May/June 2014 (exact date TBC). In order to do this, I need to raise money for the Field of Dreams charity. I am required to raise £365; however, anything raised above and beyond this will also be donated and very much appreciated.

The football game itself will involve a Celtic Home side versus a Celtic Away side. I will be wearing the Celtic away kit, shirt number 14. Celtic were the first Club to sign up with Football Aid, and with the Scottish champions’ support, other Clubs were quick to follow suit.

How you can donate

I will be taking donations from now until the end of January 2014. You can donate through my fundraising page (FundRazr). In addition to collecting donations just now, I will also be arranging different events within Aviva – more details of this will be sent out in work as they are arranged. If you are wishing to donate any money just now, please do so via this page or you can find me @ Aviva on the Ground Floor in the Cruan Business Centre, sitting next to the service team or at Lisa Chalmers bank of desks. Any contribution you can provide - big or small will be key in raising money for charity!
